The St. Elmo district at the foot of Lookout Mountain carries the weight of Civil War history — and a number of its oldest buildings carry something more.

St. Elmo is one of Chattanooga's oldest neighborhoods, sitting at the base of Lookout Mountain where the Battle Above the Clouds was fought in November 1863. Several buildings in the district date to the Reconstruction era, and paranormal reports from residents and business owners have been consistent for decades.

Our investigation covered three locations: a 19th-century commercial building on St. Elmo Avenue, the base station of the Incline Railway, and an abandoned residential property with a documented history of reported activity.

The commercial building produced the strongest results: consistent EMF activity in the back room, two REM pod triggers during an EVP session, and a Sensor Pod reading that our software flagged as one of the top 5% most anomalous we've ever logged. A partial apparition — a figure from the waist down — was briefly captured on full-spectrum video near the building's original staircase.

The residential property yielded a Class B EVP and a strong cold spot in the front bedroom. Civil War hospital records indicate the street housed a triage station during the Chattanooga Campaign.
